Educational psychologists support schools and the local authority to improve all children’s experiences of learning. They use their training in psychology and knowledge of child development to assess difficulties children may be having with their learning.

Storm van der Walt - Educational Psychologist

Storm van der Walt is a registered Educational Psychologist who completed her studies at the University of Johannesburg. She has the following qualifications: BA Psychology, BA (Hons) Psychology, PCGE, MEd Educational Psychology (UJ). After completing her Masters degree in Educational Psychology, Storm completed her internship year at the Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development (PsyCaD) at the University of Johannesburg in 2014. During this time she was offered the opportunity to work with School and University aged learners who presented with a variety of scholastic, developmental and emotional challenges.

In 2015 Storm started working at a Remedial school and worked with learners presenting with a broad range of learning barriers and challenges. She also worked closely with the teachers to ensure that the learners were receiving the most suitable interventions for their needs. Additionally, her role included the full psychoeducational assessment of the learners to track progress and alter interventions, where necessary. She also provided therapeutic support on an individual and group basis when the need arose. In an effort to provide support to the teachers, Storm presented a variety of workshops to assist the teachers in providing the best for the learners in their care.

In 2017, Storm began working at a private practice in Glenvista and continued to work with clients on an individual basis. She provided the level of care each person needed in an individualised way. Additionally, she presented many parent, learner and teacher workshops on a wide range of topics. In 2019 Storm left the practice to start her family and has 2 beautiful children. She is currently working in private practice on a part time basis in Alberton and the surrounds.

Storm’s therapeutic approach is a client-centred one and she aims to provide an individualised and holistic service to her clients. She loves to find new and creative ways of engaging with her clients and feels that working with children is the most rewarding way to spend a day.
